REDBIRD FMX
FAA APROVED - AATD
Destin Flight Works is pleased to offer a Redbird FMX full-motion flight simulator to our customers, be they experienced professionals, new students, or pilots who simply want to sharpen their skills. Redbird FMX is configured for Cessna 172 with G1000 and KAP140 Autopilot. Our FMX includes a Control Loading system which allows our students to learn how the aircraft controls will feel at various trim and airspeed combinations. The electric motion platform provides an effective 3-axis motion feedback for yaw, pitch, and roll. All these features plus 200-degree wrap-around visuals make the flying experience feel almost identical to the real aircraft. FAQ
Who can train in the Redbird FMX?
Anyone can receive training in the simulator. Redbird FMX is approved by the FAA for training for the Private and Commercial certificates and the Instrument, Multi-engine, and Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) ratings. In addition, you can maintain currency for your Instrument rating using the simulator.
Why should you train in Redbird FMX?
The option to pause the flight allows your instructor to explain certain scenarios and answer your questions, making Redbird FMX an excellent classroom where you can learn everything from basic flight maneuvers to complex instrument approaches.
Failures like pitot-static system failure, vacuum pump failure, and more can be effectively simulated in safe environments of an AATD.
A variety of weather scenarios like low visibility, strong winds, turbulence, and precipitation can be simulated in the safety of the Redbird.
You can practice a flight to a new destination.
The training provided by Redbird FMX allows the student to complete flight time requirements and experience while lowering training costs.
Does the FAA permit simulator time as hours towards a specific certificate or rating under 14 CFR Part 61?
Yes. The FAA qualified and approved Redbird FMX as an Advanced Aviation Training Device (AATD) in accordance with Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations (14 CFR) §61.4(c) for use in satisfying the following sections:
§61.109(k)(1) - Private Pilot Certificate aeronautical experience: 2.5 hours
§61.65(i) - Instrument Rating: 20 hours
§61.129(i)(1)(i) - Commercial Pilot: 50 hours
Please note these are the maximum hours that count toward the certification to meet the minimum requirements. However, there is no limit on the number of hours you can fly the simulator for increasing skills and experience.
Can the Redbird FMX be used for an Instrument Proficiency Check (IPC)?
Yes. Redbird FMX is approved for use in satisfying the §61.57(d)(1) requirements for IPC per Letter of Authorization (LOA) from the FAA.
Can the Redbird FMX be used for Instrument Rating currency requirements?
Yes. Redbird FMX is approved for use in satisfying the §61.57(c) per Letter of Authorization (LOA) from the FAA. You can meet the FAA currency requirements in about one hour in the simulator, which is almost half of the time it would take to do the same work in aircraft.
Once you are checked out in the simulator, you can do currency work without an instructor.
